The Washington Nationals have called up powerful first baseman Andr\u00e9s Chaparro from Triple-A Rochester, as announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Chaparro, 26 years old, has had a standout season in the minor leagues, batting .274 with 15 home runs in 53 games. The Nationals’ interim manager, Miguel Cairo, indicated that Chaparro will primarily play against left-handed pitchers and was included in Tuesday night’s lineup against the New York Mets’ left-hander, David Peterson.<\/p>\n
This is the second time Chaparro has been called up to the majors this season. The player debuted last year and has a batting average of .205 with four home runs in 37 games in the Major Leagues.<\/p>\n
In addition, infielder Jos\u00e9 Tena was sent to Triple-A.<\/p>\n
