The news was received with enthusiasm by the team, marking an important milestone in his recovery.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s really good news. The fact that he&#8217;s feeling better and we&#8217;re getting to a point where we can see him back is incredible,\u201d manager Joe Espada commented.<\/p>\n\n<cite>Joe Espada, Astros Manager<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nAlvarez has been absent since May 3rd due to a small fracture in his right hand, initially diagnosed as a muscle strain.\n\nThe player was in Houston on Sunday before the team&#8217;s final game of the series against Baltimore, after returning from the Astros&#8217; spring training facility in Florida, which gave Espada the opportunity to converse with him.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>\u201cIt feels better. Good enough to begin a rehab assignment,\u201d Espada added.<\/p>\n\n<cite>Joe Espada, Astros Manager<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nEspada indicated that Alvarez would need &#8220;a few games before joining our club&#8221;, but when asked about the exact number of games or at-bats that the left-handed hitter would need, he refrained from giving further details.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ll start on Tuesday and then we&#8217;ll see what happens,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n<cite>Joe Espada, Astros Manager<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nEspada confirmed that Alvarez will serve as the team&#8217;s designated hitter on Tuesday.\n\nThe return of Alvarez would be a significant boost for the Astros as the postseason approaches, especially considering that he led the team in batting average (.308), home runs (35), and RBIs (86) last season.
