Arteta backs \u00d8degaard as Arsenal captain after criticism<\/h2>\n\nMikel Arteta, Arsenal’s technical director, has defended Martin \u00d8degaard, who has been the subject of criticism regarding his captaincy. Arteta revealed that the players overwhelmingly voted in favor of \u00d8degaard keeping the armband this season.\n\nArteta’s decision comes after former Arsenal captain Tony Adams expressed doubts about \u00d8degaard’s ability to lead the team. Adams suggested that Arsenal would not win the league with \u00d8degaard as captain, and advocated for Declan Rice to take on the role.\n\nHowever, Arteta explained that, after Jorginho’s departure, the team had the opportunity to reconsider its group of leaders, but they chose to keep \u00d8degaard, who has been captain since 2022.\n\n\n
