Teams that seemed to dominate their divisions at the beginning of the season have seen their advantages drastically reduced, and even disappear completely.

In the National League West, the Dodgers have lost their wide lead, and the Padres now lead by one game, with a series between both teams this weekend. The situation is similar in the American League West, where the Astros ceded their position to the Mariners, who are now one game behind Houston, after a winning streak.

Meanwhile, the Brewers have built a comfortable lead in the National League Central, and lead the league with the best record, surpassing the Cubs thanks to several winning streaks, including a current one of 12 games.

Our panel of experts has ranked each team based on what has been seen so far and initial expectations. In addition, Alofoke Deportes experts were asked to provide an observation for each of the 30 teams.

MLB Power Rankings 2025: Week 18

1. Milwaukee Brewers

Record: 76-44

Trust and belief are key for the Brewers. Brice Turang and William Contreras have been fundamental in recent victories, with great hits. Contreras has stood out in the last two weeks, with six home runs in 12 games, while Turang hit six in 11. Milwaukee seems unstoppable.

2. Philadelphia Phillies

Record: 69-51

Ranger Suarez has been dominant on the road, but had a bad game against the Reds. The Phillies must focus on preparing their pitchers for the postseason. A comfortable lead in the division will help in September.

3. Toronto Blue Jays

Record: 70-51

With Shane Bieber’s return, the coaching staff will have difficult decisions. They could opt for a six-man rotation or move someone to the bullpen. Eric Lauer has been a revelation.

4. Los Angeles Dodgers

Record: 68-53

Brock Stewart, the bullpen reinforcement, is injured. The offense has been inconsistent and the team hasn’t had good results since July. The Dodgers could have difficulties against the Padres this weekend.

5. Detroit Tigers

Record: 70-52

The Tigers must defend their position against Cleveland, with six of their last twelve games against the Guardians. Although their schedule is favorable, the last few weeks will be crucial.

6. Seattle Mariners

Record: 67-54

The Mariners tied for first place in the division after winning eight consecutive games. They have won nine of eleven since the trade deadline and are seeking their first division title since 2001. With the return of Bryce Miller and the addition of Victor Robles, the team feels optimistic.

7. Chicago Cubs

Record: 68-51

The Cubs might have to focus on a wild card spot due to the offensive slump. Although the pitching staff has kept the team afloat, the lack of power in the middle of the order is concerning. Kyle Tucker hasn’t had many extra-base hits since July.

8. San Diego Padres

Record: 69-52

Michael King’s return to the rotation is a major step forward. The lineup, bolstered by new additions, and the bullpen, strengthened by Mason Miller, put the Padres in good shape for the final stretch. They are now ready to challenge the Dodgers in the National League West.

9. Houston Astros

Record: 68-53

The Astros are in a tight divisional race with the Mariners and will have to defend themselves without their star closer, Josh Hader, who is on the injured list. Hader’s absence significantly weakens the bullpen.

10. Boston Red Sox

Record: 66-56

Roman Anthony has had an immediate impact similar to Fred Lynn, quickly becoming a key piece of Boston’s offense.

11. New York Mets

Record: 64-55

A bad offensive slump since the end of July has been frustrating for the Mets. Pete Alonso set a franchise home run record. They need to improve their performance to get back to normal.

12. New York Yankees

Record: 64-57

The Yankees’ acquisitions have had a difficult start, but David Bednar has provided stability to the bullpen. Manager Aaron Boone seems to have defined his closer.

13. Cincinnati Reds

Record: 64-58

Hunter Greene’s return to the pitching staff could be key to the playoff push. They need more consistent offensive contributions.

14. Cleveland Guardians

Record: 62-57

Cleveland has won 21 of its last 30 games despite the adversities. Their surprising performance is reminiscent of the 2024 Tigers.

15. Texas Rangers

Record: 61-61

The Rangers need to show a consistent game to maintain their playoff hopes. Time is running out for them.

16. St. Louis Cardinals

Record: 61-61

Is this the real Jordan Walker? His development is part of the Cardinals’ strategy. Could 2026 be his year?

17. San Francisco Giants

Record: 59-62

The Giants haven’t had a winning month since April. Rafael Devers seems to be improving his performance at Oracle Park.

18. Kansas City Royals

Record: 60-61

Adam Frazier has had a positive impact on the team, boosting the offense. They have improved significantly since the All-Star break.

19. Tampa Bay Rays

Record: 59-63

Christopher Morel has had a disappointing season.

20. Miami Marlins

Record: 58-62

The Marlins’ chances for the wild card have been affected by their poor offensive performance. They lost five of six games, including a double loss against the Braves.

21. Arizona Diamondbacks

Record: 59-62

Geraldo Perdomo is having his best season, establishing himself as one of the best shortstops.

22. Los Angeles Angels

Record: 59-62

Zach Neto has had outstanding performances, including a triple play against Shohei Ohtani. The Angels completed a sweep against the Dodgers.

23. Minnesota Twins

Record: 57-63

Joe Ryan is expected to have a high value in the transfer market.

24. Baltimore Orioles

Record: 54-66

The Orioles are in the process of building their pitching staff for 2026.

25. Atlanta Braves

Record: 52-68

The Braves will need Spencer Strider to perform at his peak to be contenders again next season.

26. Oakland Athletics

Record: 54-69

The Athletics’ offense is promising, led by Shea Langeliers, who has been one of the best hitters in the game in recent weeks.

27. Pittsburgh Pirates

Record: 51-71

The Pirates have offensive problems, especially with the lack of home runs. They need more power to succeed.

28. Chicago White Sox

Record: 44-77

Andrew Benintendi is the only player under contract for 2026. The team hopes Luis Robert Jr. reaches his full potential.

29. Nationals of Washington

Record: 48-72

The Nationals need to improve their pitching staff and make significant changes in the offseason, including hiring a new general manager and manager.

30. Colorado Rockies

Record: 32-88

The Rockies have had a difficult season, with several losing streaks. They are on track to record a high number of losses.

2025 MLB Championship Races: Divisions Tighten With six weeks left in the 2025 MLB season, the fight for playoff spots intensifies.
