The team will assess the situation during its day off and make a decision before Friday&#8217;s game against the Cardinals.\n\nManager Aaron Boone commented on Goldschmidt&#8217;s situation after Wednesday&#8217;s 4-1 loss to Minnesota. &#8220;He&#8217;s dealing with something, so we&#8217;ll see if it&#8217;s an injured list situation,&#8221; he said. &#8220;He was pretty sore last night and this morning. He seems to be much better right now, so we&#8217;ll see.&#8221;\n\nGoldschmidt was injured on Tuesday while trying to catch a foul ball hit by Byron Buxton in the third inning. While trying to reach the ball, he slipped and hit his knee against the ground.\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>When I ran too hard and leaned back, I think I hit my knee on the ground.<\/p><cite>Paul Goldschmidt<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\nDespite the injury, Goldschmidt remained in Tuesday&#8217;s game and hit a double in the seventh inning before being substituted.\n\nGoldschmidt, who bats .404 against left-handed pitchers this season, did not start on Wednesday nor did he enter as a pinch hitter.\n\nSigned to a one-year, $12.5 million contract in December, after six seasons with the Cardinals, Goldschmidt is batting .276 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs in 112 games this season. He also records a .996 fielding percentage and has committed three errors in 745 chances.\n\nBen Rice started at first base on Wednesday and Cody Bellinger has played two games at that position this season.\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>He has been a fundamental part of his team.
