Tennis player Grigor Dimitrov, a Grand Slam semi-finalist on three occasions, has withdrawn from the US Open. The news comes after a chest muscle injury he suffered just over a month ago during his match against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n
Dimitrov’s exit from the All England Club on July 7th, where he was forced to retire from the match after winning the first two sets, represents his fifth consecutive time in a Grand Slam tournament that he fails to complete a match. This situation also occurred at the Australian Open in January and the French Open in May, in addition to Wimbledon and the US Open last year.<\/p>\n
In last year’s US Open, Dimitrov retired in the quarterfinals, when he was losing 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 4-1 against Frances Tiafoe.<\/p>\n
Dimitrov reached the US Open semi-finals in 2019, the Australian Open in 2017 and Wimbledon in 2014.<\/p>\n
His highest ranking was number 3 in the world, he is currently ranked number 21.<\/p>\n
With Dimitrov’s withdrawal, Alejandro Tabilo gets a place in the men’s singles draw, which will begin on August 24.<\/p>\n
