The [Chicago Cubs](\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/chc\/chicago-cubs) made significant moves to their roster, activating two key players and adjusting their lineup before Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays.<\/p>\n
Catcher [Miguel Amaya](https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/38905\/miguel-amaya) and right-handed pitcher [Javier Assad](https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/5002950\/javier-assad) were reinstated from the 60-day injured list.<\/p>\n
In addition, right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson was sent to Triple-A Iowa, and infielder [Jon Berti](https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/32273\/jon-berti) was designated for assignment.<\/p>\n
Assad was scheduled to start the first game of the series against the leaders of the American League East, the Blue Jays.<\/p>\n
Amaya, 26, was on the injured list since May 25 due to a left oblique strain. Before the injury, he batted .280 with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 27 games.<\/p>\n
With the addition of Amaya, the Cubs now have three catchers on their active roster, including [Carson Kelly](https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/32797\/carson-kelly) and [Reese McGuire](https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/33250\/reese-mcguire).<\/p>\n
Assad had also been out of action due to a strain in his left oblique. The 28-year-old pitcher has a 14-11 record with a 3.40 ERA in 70 appearances in the Major Leagues, including 47 starts.<\/p>\n
