The fight took place in Caracas, Venezuela.

Duarte Wins in the Super Lightweight Elimination

Oscar Duarte defeated Kenneth Sims Jr. by majority decision in an eliminator for the WBA super lightweight title in Chicago. It was a close and competitive fight between Duarte, known for his power, and Sims, a technical boxer. Duarte’s strength and constant pressure were decisive for the victory, opening the possibility for him to challenge champion Gary Antuanne Russell.

Both boxers remain outside the top 10 of ESPN in the 140-pound category.

Prograis vs. Díaz: A Duel of Ex-Champions

The co-main event of the night was headlined by Regis Prograis and Joseph “Jojo” Diaz, in a super lightweight fight between two former champions. Prograis took the victory by unanimous decision in a fight that kept the fans on the edge of their seats.

Prograis, taking advantage of his jab, accumulated important points against Diaz. Despite Diaz connecting significant blows, Prograis demonstrated resilience and managed to reverse the situation on several occasions.

Diaz also had to deal with a cut on his left eye, but continued to fight successfully at close range. Prograis, however, was superior from a distance, securing the victory with two cards of 96-94 and one of 98-92.

I felt like I won the fight. My jab was working all night. I was connecting. I think he connected with some hard shots, but at the same time I was never [hurt]. I probably wobbled the first time he connected, but after that, I didn’t wobble anymore.
Regis Prograis

Both Prograis and Diaz remain outside the top 10 in the super lightweight division for the moment.

ESPN’s boxing rankings highlight the best boxers in each weight category. These rankings are updated according to recent results and performances.

Boxers who have announced their change of category will be included in the new division, if applicable, once they fight in that category. Boxers holding titles in two divisions may be ranked in both.

Boxers who have not competed in the last 12 months, and do not have a scheduled fight, will be removed from the rankings until they fight again. Any boxer who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed.

To see a list of the current champions in all weight categories, consult the official page.

These are
