David Stearns Confident in Mets’ Offensive Recovery<\/h2>\n\nThe New York Mets’ president of baseball operations, David Stearns, has expressed his frustration with the team’s recent offensive struggles, but remains confident in a quick recovery.\n\nThe Mets, who were 2.5 games behind first place in the National League East, began a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers, leaders of the Central League.\n\nThe New York team arrived in Milwaukee after being swept at home by Cleveland, accumulating only five hits in the last two games of that series.\n\nIn the last game against Cleveland, the Mets failed to get a hit until the ninth inning.\n\n\n

Clearly, everyone is frustrated. The players are frustrated. Sometimes, I have been too. But I think this is a good offensive team. They have a track record of helping to lead and put together very good quality offenses.<\/p>David Stearns<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe Mets, before Friday’s game, had not surpassed three runs in five of their last eight games.\n\nSo far this season, the Mets ranked 15th in runs scored, 23rd in batting average, 15th in on-base percentage, 14th in slugging percentage, and 13th in OPS.\n\nThese results do not meet expectations for a lineup that features players like Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso.\n\nLast year, the Mets ranked seventh in runs scored, 12th in batting average, eighth in on-base percentage, 10th in slugging percentage, and ninth in OPS, which allowed them to reach the playoffs.\n\nBoth Stearns and manager Carlos Mendoza pointed to the Mets’ hitters’ history as a reason to believe in a quick improvement.\n\n\n

They’re really good players and they’ve done it before. It’s just that, when you’re going through this, it gets noisy, you know? But when you look at our players, when you look at that locker room, there’s a lot of talent there.
