Guard Rob Jones has finished his first season with the Dallas Cowboys before it officially begins.<\/p>\n
After suffering a neck fracture on July 28 during the first practice with equipment, the Cowboys placed him on the injured reserve list on Friday.<\/p>\n
A recovery period of two to three months was expected, but his return to the field was uncertain. Therefore, the Cowboys opted for the injury reserve.<\/p>\n
Jones, who signed a one-year contract for $3.75 million, with $3 million guaranteed, had seen action with the first team before the injury. He was anticipated to back up rookie Tyler Booker at the right guard position.<\/p>\n
Before joining the Cowboys, Jones played four years with the Miami Dolphins, where he started in 30 of 49 games.<\/p>\n
To fill Jones’ position, the Cowboys signed running back Malik Davis, who was released in April after spending most of the last two seasons on the practice squad.<\/p>\n
With Miles Sanders out due to a knee contusion and Deuce Vaughn recovering from a hamstring strain, the Cowboys needed reinforcements at the running back position.
