ESPN Analysis
In a weekend full of action in the boxing world, Carlos Canizales avenged his defeat against Petchmanee CP Freshmart with a technical knockout in the fifth round, winning the WBC super flyweight title and climbing to number 5 in the Alofoke Deportes ranking, displacing Freshmart.

On Saturday, in Chicago, Oscar Duarte defeated Kenneth Sims Jr. by majority decision in a super lightweight title eliminator for the WBA. It was a close and competitive fight, but Duarte’s strength and constant pressure were decisive in obtaining the victory, which could lead him to fight for the title against Gary Antuanne Russell.

Both boxers remain outside the top 10 of the 140-pound division.

The co-main event between Regis Prograis and Joseph “Jojo” Diaz was the highlight of the weekend. In a match between two former super lightweight champions, Prograis took the victory by unanimous decision in a very entertaining fight.

Prograis, with an effective jab, added crucial points over Diaz, who, despite connecting significant blows, did not achieve the knockout. Diaz, desperately seeking a change of luck and to return to the conversation for the title at 140 pounds, tested Prograis on several occasions, but failed to secure the victory.

Diaz also had to deal with a cut on his left eye that threatened to stop the fight. However, he fought bravely at close range. Prograis, with his jab and left hook, kept his opponent at bay and took the victory with scores of 96-94 and 98-92.

I felt like I won the fight. My jab worked all night and connected. I think he connected with some strong punches, but at the same time I was never [hurt]. I probably wobbled the first time he hit me, but after that, I didn’t wobble anymore.
Regis Prograis

Both Prograis and Díaz remain outside the top 10 in the super lightweight division for the moment.

Alofoke Deportes’ boxing rankings highlight the best in each weight category. The rankings will be updated according to recent results and performances.

Boxers who have announced their change of category will be classified in their new division, if applicable, once they fight in that category. Boxers who hold titles in two divisions may be classified in both.

Boxers who have not competed in the last 12 months, and who do not have a scheduled fight, will be removed from the rankings until they fight again. Any boxer who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed.

That boxer will be able to re-enter the rankings after his next fight.

To get the list of current
