The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Masters for “non-medical” reasons, which means he will arrive at the US Open without having played any official matches in approximately a month and a half.<\/p>\n
The winner of 24 Grand Slam titles has not competed since his defeat in the Wimbledon semi-finals against Jannik Sinner on July 11.<\/p>\n
That straight-sets defeat to Sinner at the All England Club came two days after Djokovic, 38, suffered a fall he described as “unpleasant” and “strange” in the final game of his quarter-final victory. Djokovic was clearly affected against Sinner and was unable to move at his best, receiving treatment on his upper left leg from a trainer.<\/p>\n
Djokovic’s withdrawal from Cincinnati adds to his decision not to participate in the Toronto Masters, which concludes this week. He cited a groin injury to justify his absence.<\/p>\n
His previous event before Wimbledon was the French Open, where he also lost to Sinner in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n
Djokovic will have no hard court preparation before the individual competition of the US Open begins on August 24.<\/p>\n
