MIAMI – Marcos Thomas P\u00e9rez, a former Miami Heat security officer, appeared in federal court on Tuesday, charged with selling jerseys and other memorabilia stolen worth millions of dollars.<\/p>\n
P\u00e9rez, 62 years old and a Miami resident, faces charges for transporting and transferring stolen goods in interstate commerce.<\/p>\n
According to a joint announcement from the Southern District of Florida and the FBI in Miami, authorities executed a search warrant at P\u00e9rez’s residence on April 3, seizing approximately 300 game-worn jerseys and other valuables.<\/p>\n
The Heat confirmed that the items had been stolen from their facilities.<\/p>\n
The indictment details that Perez sold the items to online intermediaries. Authorities claim that, over a three-year period, Perez sold more than 100 stolen items for approximately $2 million, sending them across state lines, often at reduced prices.<\/p>\n
It is alleged that P\u00e9rez sold a Miami Heat jersey worn by LeBron James during the NBA Finals for around $100,000. That same jersey was later sold at a Sotheby’s auction for $3.7 million.<\/p>\n
P\u00e9rez, a retired veteran of the Miami Police Department with 25 years of service, worked for the Heat from 2016 to 2021 and as an NBA security employee from 2022 to 2025.<\/p>\n
I worked on the security team on game days at the Kaseya Center. I was one of the few employees with access to a secure equipment room where memorabilia that the organization planned to exhibit in a future team museum was stored.
