Steelers Quarterback Will Howard Suffers Hand Injury<\/h2>\n\n\nSteelers rookie quarterback Will Howard suffered an injury to his throwing hand during Tuesday’s practice, according to coach Mike Tomlin.\n\nHoward, selected in the sixth round of the draft, apparently injured his hand during an exchange with the center. He will undergo further evaluation.\n\n\n

I think it was an exchange with the center. But I didn’t see it directly, so I’m speculating.<\/p>\n\nMike Tomlin<\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nTomlin also added that tight end Jonnu Smith left practice early due to a knee issue, although it seems “less significant.” In addition, outside linebacker Alex Highsmith missed practice due to a groin injury suffered on Sunday, which will keep him out for “at least a couple of days.”\n\nHoward was listed as the third quarterback on the team’s initial depth chart, ahead of Skylar Thompson. Howard, coming from Ohio State, was slated to play a considerable amount of snaps in Saturday’s preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.\n\nHoward threw a pass to wide receiver Brandon Johnson for a touchdown during the team’s Seven Shots period, and during the team’s first period, he rolled out and found tight end JJ Galbreath for a reception.\n\nHowever, Howard did not participate in any additional team periods after the first and left practice early. Instead, Thompson took the third-team drills, including a two-minute drill that ended with running back Kenneth Gainwell dropping a pass in the end zone on fourth down.\n\nHoward has been a fan favorite in his first training camp, often eliciting loud cheers when he completes a pass.\n\n\n
