The 44-year-old Spanish driver had chosen not to participate in the first session due to a back injury.\n\nAlonso has been dealing with a muscle injury in his back since last week&#8217;s Belgian Grand Prix. His participation in the Hungarian Grand Prix was in doubt on Friday when he withdrew from FP1, being replaced by reserve driver Felipe Drugovich.\n\nHowever, before the second practice session, Aston Martin issued a statement confirming Alonso&#8217;s return to the cockpit.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>&#8220;Fernando Alonso will be back in the AMR25 for FP2 this afternoon,&#8221; the statement indicated.<\/p>\n\n<cite>Aston Martin<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe team explained that Alonso decided not to participate in the first practice session to limit time in the car, while managing the muscle injury in his back.
