By September 2023, during training camp, he assured he felt &#8220;much better.&#8221; His last official game was on October 29, 2023. On November 1, he announced an indefinite leave due to what the team described as an &#8220;ongoing injury situation.&#8221;\n\n<p>Before his absence, Backstrom played more than 1,200 games with the Capitals, accumulating more than 1,100 points. He was a key player in the conquest of the Stanley Cup in 2018.
