Seattle reliever Trent Thornton suffers injury and is removed from the field<\/h2>\n\nSeattle Mariners reliever Trent Thornton suffered an injury while heading to the mound after a pitch in the ninth inning of Thursday night’s game. The incident occurred during the Mariners’ 6-0 victory over the Texas Rangers.\n\nThornton was seen using crutches to move around the team’s locker room after the game. So far, the team has not issued an official diagnosis on the left leg injury he suffered after Adolis Garc\u00eda’s hit with two outs.\n\n\n

It’s probably the Achilles tendon, but that’s just speculation, so I’ll know tomorrow. It’s very frustrating.<\/p>Trent Thornton<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nThornton entered the game at the start of the eighth inning and retired the first five batters he faced. The right-handed pitcher was in a full count against Garcia before the batter hit a ground ball to a 95 mph fastball on the outside lower corner.\n\n\n

I threw the pitch, and as soon as I turned around, I thought I had broken the guy’s bat and it hit me in the back of the leg, and I fell.<\/p>Trent Thornton<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nThornton explained that his first reaction was to try to look at his leg to see what had happened.\n\n\n

I tried to get up and couldn’t even put pressure on it. It didn’t hurt. It just aches and is numb. But I guess I don’t know. I’m still trying to process this a little bit, and I’ll know more tomorrow.<\/p>Trent Thornton<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe Mariners manager, Dan Wilson, commented that he thought Thornton had pitched “fabulously” before the injury.\n\n\n
