NFL Employee Wounded in Manhattan Building Shooting<\/h2>\n\nAn employee of the National Football League (NFL) was seriously injured in a shooting on Monday in a Midtown Manhattan building that houses the NFL offices and some of the country’s leading financial firms, according to a memo from Commissioner Roger Goodell to employees.\n\nAuthorities reported that four people, including an off-duty New York City police officer, were killed and another person was seriously injured in the shooting at the building located at 345 Park Avenue.\n\n\n

“One of our employees was seriously injured in this attack. He is currently in the hospital and in stable condition,” Goodell wrote in the memo. “NFL staff are at the hospital and we are supporting his family. We believe all of our employees are safe and accounted for, and the building has almost been cleared.”<\/p>\n\nRoger Goodell<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nGoodell announced that there will be “increased security presence” at the league’s offices “in the coming days and weeks.” In addition, he indicated that New York-based employees should work remotely on Tuesday.\n\n\n

“Each of you is a valuable member of the NFL family,” Goodell wrote. “We will get through this together.”<\/p>\n\nRoger Goodell<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nPolice identified the gunman as Shane Tamura, from Las Vegas, and confirmed that he died by suicide. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch reported in a press conference that Tamura had a “documented history of mental health issues,” but the motive for the attack is still unknown.\n\n\n

“We are working to understand why he chose this particular place,” Tisch stated.<\/p>\n\nJessica Tisch<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe New York City Fire Department reported that emergency crews were called to the Park Avenue office building around 6:30 p.m. due to a report of shots fired.\n\nAt that moment, NFL employees were instructed to shelter in place.\n\nThe NFL offices occupy floors five through eight of the 44-story building.\n\nFour other individuals sustained minor injuries while attempting to escape the scene.\n\nThe mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, stated that the authorities are still “unraveling” what happened.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
