The contract has an average annual value of $4.525 million.\n\nKakko, 24, was acquired by the Kraken on December 18, coming from the New York Rangers, in exchange for defenseman Will Borgen, a third-round pick in 2025 and a sixth-round pick in 2025.\n\nThe Finnish player was selected second overall in the 2019 NHL draft by the Rangers.\n\nLast season, Kakko reached a personal best of 44 points, including 14 goals and 30 assists, in 79 games played between the Rangers and the Kraken. His 30 assists also represented his career best.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cSecuring a contract with Kaapo was a priority this summer,\u201d stated General Manager Jason Botterill. \u201cWe knew quickly that he would be a key piece for our team in the future. He has size, skill, and a great ability to create plays, and he isn&#8217;t afraid to go in front of the net. He integrated immediately with our group, and we are thrilled to have him under contract.\u201d<\/p><cite>Jason Botterill<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nWith the Kraken, Kakko recorded 10 goals and 20 assists in 49 games. In addition, he tied his personal record for points in a game, with three assists in Seattle&#8217;s 4-2 victory against the Los Angeles Kings on January 18.
