This result gives him a one-stroke lead in the tournament, seeking his second senior major title of the year.

The current champion, K.J. Choi, led much of the second round at Sunningdale’s Old Course, but bogeys on holes 16 and 17 relegated him to a 67, one stroke behind Harrington. Thomas Bjorn is also in the same position, after signing a 63.

Harrington has the chance to become the fifth player to win both the British Open and the Senior British Open.

Where I should have scored, I did, and then I had problems in many other holes. I managed some recovery shots and managed my game, but I didn’t show much confidence in my swing. Obviously, I like these 72-hole tournaments, and the bigger golf courses suit me.
Padraig Harrington

The Senior British Open is the fifth major of the PGA Tour Champions, while the regular tournaments consist of 54 holes. Harrington was already crowned champion of the U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor, Colorado.

Thomas Bjorn, visibly motivated, transformed his frustration into an outstanding performance. After some bogeys at the end of the first round, he achieved four birdies in the first five holes on Friday, including an eagle on the 11th hole.

I went out with the mindset that I played well yesterday and was hitting the ball well. I knew I was playing well, but I was angry. I wanted to start well and I hit a great shot on the 2nd hole, which is not a guaranteed birdie, and then I hit good shots from there. The first 12 holes were an absolute joy.
Thomas Bjorn

Ernie Els and Justin Leonard, who managed to make the cut at last week’s British Open at Royal Portrush, are two strokes off the lead.

Padraig Harrington leads the Senior British Open The golfer Padraig Harrington finished with a birdie on his last hole, achieving a 65 (-5) in the second round of the Senior British Open.
