The news was confirmed this Tuesday, solidifying the player&#8217;s presence on the team.\n\nThe Kraken acquired Kakko, 24, on December 18, coming from the New York Rangers. The trade involved defenseman Will Borgen, a third-round pick in 2025, and a sixth-round pick in the same year. Kakko, originally from Finland, was the second overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft.\n\nLast season, Kakko achieved a career-high with 44 points, thanks to 14 goals and 30 assists in 79 games played between the Rangers and the Kraken. His 30 assists also marked a personal record.\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Getting a contract with Kaapo was a priority this summer. In addition, he tied his personal record for points in a game, with three assists in the 4-2 victory against the Los Angeles Kings on January 18.
