The Dominican pitcher guided the Miami Marlins to a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres, in what could have been his last home start.

Alcántara, who took the mound with the song “Never Creyeron” by Wilmer Roberts, demonstrated his best version, surpassing the also outstanding Dylan Cease. He worked seven solid innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and exhibiting dominant control of his pitches. His ability to induce weak contact was notable, achieving nine outs via ground ball, including two double plays.

There are many people who don’t believe in me, but I do. If something happens, it happens. I just have to compete and work,” he commented.

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough praised Alcántara’s performance: “What Sandy did today was fantastic. He responded with a great opening when we needed it most, and we are very happy for him.”

Despite a difficult return this year, with an ERA of 7.14 before the game, Alcántara showed that he can still be a valuable asset for any team looking to strengthen its rotation. At 29 years old, under contract until 2026 and with a club option for 2027, he is positioned as one of the most attractive pitchers on the trade market.

With his historical numbers in Miami, where he ranks second in complete games (7), third in shutouts (4), and sixth in ERA (3.20, minimum 25 starts), Sandy Alcántara has left an indelible mark.

If they want to remember me as a ‘horse’, I accept it.
