After his successful baseball career, he now dedicates himself to serving as a Christian pastor in the Dominican Republic.

Mars, remembered for his crucial role in the 2005 World Series, currently leads the Ministry Refuge of Faith and Hope in Santo Domingo, spiritually guiding more than 160 people.

I made the decision to follow that path, to become a pastor and be a spiritual leader for the people. I have done very well for myself, my family, and my children.
Dámaso Marte

A Legacy in Diamonds and Faith

Dámaso Marte is part of a select list of pitchers with a historical record. He is one of only three pitchers in World Series history to win a game that went to 14 innings. He achieved this feat in Game 3 of the 2005 World Series, during Chicago’s victory over the Astros, joining figures like Babe Ruth and Chris Young.

After retiring from baseball in 2010, after winning with the Yankees in 2009, Marte dedicated himself entirely to religious life. His transition was influenced by the religious services he experienced as a player with the White Sox. “That’s what instilled in me that desire to continue with the faith after baseball,” he revealed.

From the Hill to the Pulpit

During his career in the Major Leagues, Marte stood out as a reliable reliever, with an ERA of 3.77 in 570 games over 11 seasons. His best season was in 2003, where he achieved an ERA of 1.58 and 11 saves. In 2005, he was a key piece in the outstanding postseason of the White Sox.

At 50 years old, Marte acknowledges that he misses baseball, but has found satisfaction and purpose in his current work. “I want to bring more guidance and offer spiritual help. We live, but few think about the future beyond this life. That’s what I want to share,” he affirmed.

Marte also shared anecdotes with his ex-manager, Ozzie Guillén, with whom he maintains a relationship of respect. Guillén, true to his characteristic style, joked at the anniversary meeting: “I thought Marte was in jail or dead. When I saw him, it was special. He is a different man.”

Mars expressed his gratitude towards Guillén: “Ozzie was a great guide. He pushed me, I learned a lot from him. I always respected him as a manager.”

Summary of Dámaso Marte:

Age: 50 years old

World Series Champion: 2005 (White Sox), 2009 (Yankees)

MLB Career: 11 seasons, 570 games

Best year: 2003 (ERA 1.58)

Current life: Pastor in Santo Domingo, DR

Ministry: Refuge of Faith and Hope

Dámaso Marte: From baseball glory to spiritual leadership Santo Domingo – Two decades after his triumph with the Chicago White Sox, former left-handed pitcher Dámaso Marte has found a new path.
