New York Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor has been honored with the 2026 Roberto Clemente Award, the most prestigious recognition given by Major League Baseball in honor of the philanthropic work and social impact of its players, both on and off the field.

After having been nominated on four previous occasions, the Puerto Rican becomes the fifth player born in Puerto Rico to obtain this prestigious award, joining a historic list that includes figures such as Edgar Martínez, Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltrán, and Yadier Molina. The official award ceremony will take place this Monday, prior to the start of the third game of the World Series.

For Lindor, receiving this award transcends sports, as since his childhood in Puerto Rico, he has seen Roberto Clemente as his greatest role model. The player’s commitment has translated into concrete actions that seek to transform the lives of young people and strengthen vulnerable communities.

Upon hearing the news, Lindor emphasized that his vocation for service is a value instilled by his parents and expressed his fervent desire that this recognition serves as inspiration for new generations to become actively involved in the well-being of their community.
