Tigres del Licey manager, Gilbert Gómez, did not hide his frustration following the 9-5 loss to the Águilas Cibaeñas. The strategist described the game as a “very messy” affair, noting that the six defensive errors committed by the blue team were the deciding factor that allowed the yellow team’s comeback.

A well, let’s say, dirty game. Those six errors on the scoreboard. Sometimes you know, errors that lie, but that scoreboard does not lie.
Gilbert Gómez, manager of the Tigres del Licey

Gómez explained that, although the team maintained its fighting spirit, the errors on the field were ill-timed. However, he dismissed the idea that it was a lack of connection between the players, attributing the mistakes to lapses in concentration and the desire of some players to try to do “too much” during high-pressure plays.

Albert Abreu and the offense: lights in the shadows

Despite the adverse result, the manager highlighted the individual performance of several key figures. Pitcher Albert Abreu was the highlight of the night, delivering a masterful performance over five innings, in which he allowed just one hit and struck out eight batters.

- Albert Abreu: The strategist described it as one of his best performances from the mound.

- Gustavo Núñez: He completed an impeccable offensive day by batting 5-for-5.

- Melvin and Emilio Bonifacio: They were also highlighted for their contributions to the attack, although insufficient to counteract the defensive errors.

Christian Adames’ current status and José Barrero’s defense

Regarding Christian Adames’ absence from the lineup, Gómez clarified that the infielder remains “day-to-day” as he recovers from lower back discomfort. The coaching staff is constantly monitoring his progress with corrective exercises, hoping for his prompt return.

Regarding the criticism towards José Barrero, who has accumulated three errors in his last five games, the manager came to his defense. Gómez reaffirmed his confidence in Barrero’s defensive capabilities, describing him as a versatile professional capable of playing in various infield positions.

Finally, the Tigres manager emphasized the importance of turning the page quickly. “We continue to play the same baseball; what we have to do is quickly correct the things that didn’t go well today,” concluded Gómez, focusing his gaze on the upcoming challenges of the season.
