Aaron Boone Impressed with Luis Gil’s Recovery<\/h2>\n\nYankees manager Aaron Boone expressed his satisfaction after seeing right-handed pitcher Luis Gil’s second rehab start.\n\n\n

“The stuff was good, the command decent,” Boone commented, who watched the recording of Friday’s game on Saturday morning. “More importantly, another step and building that pitch count to 57.”<\/p>Aaron Boone<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nGil pitched 3 1\/3 innings for the Double-A Somerset team, striking out seven batters and allowing two hits and two runs. In the first inning, he gave up a two-run home run. Of the 57 pitches thrown, 39 were strikes.\n\nGil is expected to make one last start in the minor leagues, this time in Triple-A Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, before possibly debuting in 2025 with the Yankees.\n\n\n

“I think the fastball is working,” Boone said. “You see the jump on that fastball, it seemed like last night it was in that 95 range. I think I saw it up to 97, but it was like live, you know, it’s getting to where he wants it”.<\/p>Aaron Boone<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nGil suffered a lat strain during spring training, which has kept him out of the Yankees’ rotation all season.\n\nIn the previous season, Gil, who was the 2024 American League Rookie of the Year, had a 15-7 record with a 3.50 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 151\u2154 innings.
