In an emotion-filled NBA opening night, the Philadelphia 76ers surprised the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, prevailing with a score of 106-100. The game was marked by the historic ceremony where the New Yorkers celebrated their championship, receiving their rings and raising their banner to the rafters before the opening tip-off.

The great protagonist of the night was LeBron James, who made his official debut in a Philadelphia jersey, the fourth franchise in his illustrious career. At 41 years old and in his twenty-fourth season, the star focused on playmaking duties, finishing his performance with 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.

The Sixers’ attack was led by Tyrese Maxey, who scored 28 points, while Jaylen Brown contributed 19 units. For his part, Joel Embiid was key in the paint with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

I, personally, can do better, but I’m still getting into a rhythm. I’ve only been with the new team for a little over two weeks. I like the way we play. I think we play exceptionally well, especially defensively.
LeBron James

Although the Knicks dominated the first half, reaching double-digit leads, the visitors’ defensive solidity kept the game close. A decisive three-pointer by Brown at the end of the third quarter fueled the Sixers’ definitive comeback in the final period, taking advantage of the hosts’ low efficiency, as they only managed a 37% shooting percentage from the field.

For the New York side, Jalen Brunson recorded 21 points and the Dominican Karl-Anthony Towns added a double-double of 19 units and 12 rebounds, an effort that proved insufficient against the intensity displayed by the Philadelphia team.

Surprise in Boston: The Pistons pull off an upset

The opening day also left a major surprise in the matchup between the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics. In a display of resilience, Detroit managed to overcome a 22-point deficit to take the 121-113 victory.

- Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 22 points and eight assists.

- An impressive 23-0 run in the fourth quarter was decisive for Detroit’s victory.

- Paul George had a stellar debut with the Celtics by scoring 38 points, although he could not prevent his team’s loss.

- Jayson Tatum, for his part, had a difficult night with low shooting efficiency.

NBA action continued with the highly anticipated duel between Victor Wembanyama’s San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, consolidating a highly competitive start to the season in the Western Conference.
