The game had a special nuance, as it was held on the very night the New York franchise received their championship rings and raised their banner to the rafters of the arena.

The spotlight was on LeBron James’ highly anticipated debut in a Philadelphia uniform. In his 24th season in the league, the 41-year-old star showcased his role as a facilitator, recording 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists, demonstrating a quick adaptation to his new environment.

Collective dominance and key comeback

The 76ers’ attack was led by Tyrese Maxey, who added 28 units, while Jaylen Brown contributed 19 points. For his part, Joel Embiid was fundamental in the paint by recording a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

I like the way we played. I think we played exceptionally well, especially defensively. Personally, I can do better, but I’m still getting into a rhythm; I’ve only been with the team for a little over two weeks.

LeBron James after his debut with the Sixers.

Although the Knicks dominated the first half with double-digit leads, the Sixers kept their composure. A buzzer-beating three-pointer by Brown at the end of the third quarter served as a catalyst for Philadelphia to take definitive control in the final period, taking advantage of the poor shooting efficiency of the home team, who finished with 37% from the field.

The champions’ balance

For the Knicks, Jalen Brunson led the offense with 21 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns contributed a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Despite the effort, the historic night—which included the presentation of rings by legend Walt Frazier—ended with a bitter taste against an opponent that is shaping up to be one of the great contenders in the Eastern Conference.

Detroit surprises in Boston

The opening day also featured an epic comeback in Boston. The Detroit Pistons managed to overcome a 22-point deficit to defeat the Celtics 121-113. The key was a decisive 23-0 run in the fourth quarter, led by Cade Cunningham with 22 points.

Cade Cunningham (Pistons): 22 points and 8 assists.

Paul George (Celtics): 38 points in his debut.

Jayson Tatum (Celtics): 13 points with a tough night from the field (6 of 23 shooting).

NBA action continued with the matchup between Victor Wembanyama’s San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder, consolidating a season start full of surprises and high competition.

LeBron James debuts with a win: Philadelphia 76ers spoil the Knicks’ championship night In an NBA opening night filled with emotions, the Philadelphia 76ers surprised the New York Knicks by winning 106-100 at Madison Square Garden.
