The Toros del Este management has made official the integration of Canadian pitcher Evan Grills to their training camp in La Romana. With this addition, the bull team seeks to bolster their starting rotation for the start of the 2026-2027 season of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM).

Grills, 34, arrives after an outstanding performance over the summer, where he played in the Frontier League and the Mexican Baseball League. During that period, the left-hander accumulated a record of 10 wins and five losses, demonstrating excellent control by recording 98 strikeouts and conceding only 25 walks in 107 innings of work.

Grills is a left-handed starter with a good repertoire and command; that combination always adds value to a rotation in this league.
Jesús Mejía, General Manager of the Toros del Este

Experience and roster adjustments

Although it will be his first experience in Dominican winter baseball, Grills is no stranger to the Caribbean. The pitcher has previously seen action in the Puerto Rican professional league with the Cangrejeros de Santurce and has a background in professional baseball in China, factors that provide him with the maturity necessary to face the challenges of LIDOM.

His arrival is a strategic move following the temporary absence of Aaron Sánchez. The fellow imported starter is dealing with health complications stemming from a virus, so the Toros organization hopes for his speedy recovery to reintegrate him into the team in the near future.

Preparations for Opening Day

The team, under the direction of Víctor Estévez, is working intensely on shaping its official rotation for the first matches of the tournament. Details regarding the starting pitchers will be announced soon by the coaching staff.

The Toros del Este are preparing for their official season debut, which will take place at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium. The team from La Romana will host the Estrellas Orientales this Opening Day, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:30 at night.
