During a meeting that brought together figures from the business and diplomatic sectors, it was highlighted that the country’s geographical position, combined with its advanced logistical connectivity, represents a unique opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties.

The president of the entity, Leonel Castellanos Duarte, highlighted the sustained growth of trade, which has managed to scale from 370 million dollars to surpass the 1 billion dollar barrier by the year 2025.

It should be said frankly: our balance of trade remains asymmetric. That fact is not a reproach; it is an alert that compels us to improve.

Leonel Castellanos Duarte, President of the Dominican-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce

Challenges and opportunities in the trade balance

Currently, the trade flow shows a marked specialization. While Brazil provides the Dominican market with essential inputs such as agricultural machinery, steel, cereals, food, and vehicles, the Dominican Republic has focused its exports mainly on medical devices and pharmaceutical products.

To correct the asymmetry, Castellanos Duarte emphasized the need to:

Promote greater openness for the Dominican exportable supply in Brazilian territory.

Leverage Brazil’s technical cooperation, highlighting the recent agreement with the entity Embrapa for the modernization of the national agricultural sector.

Utilize the country’s port and free zone infrastructure as a strategic platform for Brazilian companies to reach markets in the Caribbean, Central America, and North America.

A natural partner in the global context

In an economic environment marked by volatility and geopolitical tensions, the President of the Chamber highlighted the resilience of the Brazilian economy, whose agribusiness reached record exports of 169 billion dollars in 2025. Likewise, he linked this commercial relationship with the Dominican State’s objectives of integrating more deeply into regional cooperation, citing President Luis Abinader’s vision regarding the importance of strategic alliances to face current challenges.

The Dominican-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1988, reaffirms its commitment to continue being the main bridge between both nations, urging the new generation of entrepreneurs to develop the full potential of this bilateral relationship, which is consolidated as one of the most dynamic in the region.

Dominican-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce bets on turning the country into a regional logistics hub Within the framework of its 38th anniversary celebration, the Dominican-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce presented an ambitious strategic vision: to transform the Dominican Republic into a key regional hub for trade with Brazil.
