The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has publicly expressed that he considers himself deserving of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. According to his statements, his administration has been fundamental in curbing eight international conflicts and avoiding a potential global catastrophe, highlighting especially his stance on Iran’s nuclear program.

During a recent intervention, the president maintained that obtaining the award is a logical recognition of his diplomatic and strategic work since he took office in January 2025. Despite his optimism, Trump admitted to being skeptical about the final verdict of the committee in charge in Oslo, noting that historically the organization has shown reluctance to award figures with his political profile.

Trump’s name appears on a list of 287 candidates for the prestigious award, which is scheduled to be presented this Friday, October 9. Although the president insists on his achievements, the international landscape remains challenging, as significant tensions still persist in key regions such as Ukraine and the very scenario of relations with Iran.

I have resolved eight conflicts and I have prevented, perhaps, the total destruction of the world, because Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. And that is a positive thing, a very positive thing.
Donald Trump, President of the United States

Controversies and precedents

The relationship between the president and the Nobel institution has not been without controversy. Earlier this year, an incident involved the gold medal previously awarded to the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, which forced the Nobel Institute to make clarifications regarding the ownership of the prize. Trump has been emphatic in pointing out that, regardless of the committee’s decision, he considers his impact on world geopolitics to exceed that of other presidents who have passed through the White House.

The Nobel committee now faces the pressure of evaluating a candidacy that has generated as much debate as expectations in the international political sphere, while the world awaits the official announcement of the winner.
