Yindhira Taveras has positioned herself as the first professor from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and the third woman in the country to obtain a doctorate in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in Transportation, granted by the University of Puerto Rico, Mayag\u00fcez Campus.<\/p>\n\n<p>This recognition not only underscores her research capability, but also marks a significant advancement for female presence in areas of high technical and scientific specialization. Taveras, who also serves as an adjunct researcher in the National Researchers Career endorsed by MESCyT, is preparing to lead the first road safety laboratory with virtual reality at the UASD.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key research on road safety<\/h3>\n\n<p>Taveras&#8217; doctoral work addressed a critical issue: the influence of human factors and mental workload when driving under the influence of alcohol. Through the use of advanced technology, including driving simulators and electroencephalography (EEG), the researcher was able to correlate the driver&#8217;s physical performance with their neurological indicators.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">One of the most relevant findings of the research was verifying that a person&#8217;s perception of their state does not always coincide with their physiological response. This result reinforces the need to integrate engineering, neuroscience, psychology, and technology into road safety strategies.<\/p>\n<cite>Yindhira Taveras<\/cite>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key study findings<\/h3>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identification of a notable deterioration in driver performance starting at blood alcohol concentrations of 0.05%, with a greater impact upon reaching 0.08%.<\/li>\n<li>Significant increase in mental workload during nighttime driving.<\/li>\n<li>Higher cognitive demand when traveling on two-lane roads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p>From the UASD, it has been highlighted that this achievement is a testament to the faculty&#8217;s commitment to excellence and continuous training.
