Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz broke ground this Thursday for the start of construction of a modern sports complex in the municipality of Los Cacaos, San Cristóbal province. This project, which has an investment of approximately 25 million pesos, is part of the ambitious national sports infrastructure program that seeks to ensure that every municipality in the country has adequate facilities for physical activity and recreation.

During the event, the head of the sports portfolio highlighted the positive impact of this initiative for local youth, emphasizing that sport is a fundamental pillar for social integration and the well-being of Dominican families.

Los Cacaos will have the multipurpose roof it deserves. This is the policy of the Luis Abinader administration, which supports this initiative to provide facilities to municipalities that did not have them. This space will be key for the development of the youth and for the social cohesion of the community.
Kelvin Cruz, Minister of Sports

The minister also highlighted that, due to the geographical and climatic conditions of the mountainous area of Los Cacaos, where rainfall often interrupts outdoor activities, having a roof of these dimensions will allow sports practice to remain unaffected by the weather.

Technical details and equipment of the work

The project, which will be executed in an area of one thousand square meters, has been designed under high-quality standards to meet the needs of local athletes. Among the technical specifications of the multipurpose facility are:

- Structure with concrete foundations and floor.

- High-resistance metal roofing.

- High-performance synthetic flooring installation.

- Perimeter fencing, bleachers, and unisex restrooms.

- Professional equipment: FIBA-certified backboards, digital scoreboard, and 24-second shot clock.

- Infrastructure for volleyball, including nets and floor sockets.

Local authorities were present at the event, including Mayor Modesto Lara, Governor Pura Castillo, and Senator Gustavo Lara Salazar, who expressed their gratitude for the commitment of the Ministry of Sports and the Executive Branch to the progress of this region. With this project, Alofoke Deportes continues to follow up on the works that are transforming the sports reality in various parts of the national geography.
