The political landscape in Venezuela remains one of the central topics on the international agenda. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, recently spoke about the possibility of holding new elections in the South American nation, noting that, while it is a viable option for the future, the current moment is not the right one.

In an interview granted to Time magazine, the U.S. president was emphatic in indicating that, although democratic processes are necessary, the situation is currently going through a highly sensitive stage. “They could hold elections, although I think it is still too early,” declared Trump, underscoring that it is necessary to evaluate the timing with caution.

I would talk to her (Delcy Rodríguez) about that, but there will be elections. Right now it is a very delicate subject, I think it is too soon.
Donald Trump, President of the United States.

Strategic cooperation and bilateral relationship

These statements gain relevance following the meeting recently held in New York, within the framework of the UN General Assembly, between Trump and the interim president, Delcy Rodríguez. This encounter marked a milestone in the bilateral relationship after the events that occurred on January 3rd, when the capture of Nicolás Maduro took place in a military operation executed by U.S. forces.

Beyond the electoral sphere, the U.S. head of state highlighted the progress in energy collaboration between both countries. Trump emphasized that cooperation in oil matters has been beneficial for both parties:

- We are extracting a huge amount of oil.

- We will soon fill our national strategic reserves.

- There is a smooth working relationship where both countries are generating significant economic benefits.

The president concluded by reaffirming that, despite diplomatic challenges, there is operational control and an established commercial dynamic that continues to advance under the current interim administration.
