The Leones del Escogido have made official a key move in their structure ahead of upcoming commitments. The capital city organization finalized a trade with the Toros del Este, acquiring right-handed pitchers Winston Santos and Leonardo Taveras, in addition to a seventh-round pick for the 2027 Rookie Draft. In exchange, the scarlet team gives up infielder Eguy Rosario.

Carlos Peña, general manager of the Escogido, positively valued the transaction, underlining that the main objective is to deepen the pitching staff and add strategic assets for the future of the franchise.

With Santos and Taveras, we have incorporated two arms that interest us and that expand our options both for the present and for the future. In addition, we added a seventh-round pick that gives us another asset to continue strengthening our organization.
Carlos Peña, General Manager of the Leones del Escogido

Talent and potential on the mound

The arrival of Winston Santos represents a commitment to power. The 24-year-old pitcher, originally from Payita, stands out for a fastball that reaches 100 miles per hour. Santos, who made his Major League debut with the Texas Rangers last July, is considered one of his organization’s top prospects. In his Minor League career, he has accumulated 499 strikeouts in 451 innings of work.

For his part, Leonardo Taveras brings an experienced track record at 28 years old. The La Vega native comes off a solid performance with the Long Island Ducks, where he recorded a 3.54 ERA. Taveras has an international background that includes his time in the St. Louis Cardinals system, as well as appearances in the winter leagues of Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Mexican baseball.

Acknowledgment to Eguy Rosario

The Escogido management dedicated words of recognition to Eguy Rosario, who was a fundamental part of the team that won the championship in the 2025-26 season. The club highlighted his professionalism and wished him success in his new stage with the Toros del Este.

This roster adjustment, as explained by Peña, is part of the management’s ongoing planning to keep the team competitive and versatile in all areas of the game, especially in the bullpen.
