The prominent dancer, teacher, and choreographer Alina Abreu is preparing for an unforgettable milestone in her artistic career. As part of the celebration of her four decades dedicated to dance, she will present the world premiere of her original ballet titled La Ciguapa, a work that pays tribute to Dominican folklore and one of its most enigmatic legends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater will be the stage where this mystical story will come to life from November 13 to 15, 2026. The production promises to transport attendees to the high Dominican mountains through a proposal that fuses classical ballet technique with the richness of our oral tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the most fascinating technical challenges of this production has been to choreographically recreate the Ciguapa’s distinctive trait: her feet facing backward. Alina Abreu has designed a scenic narrative that integrates this particularity as a central element of the character’s identity, challenging the boundaries of traditional dance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main cast is led by Laura Isabel Fern\u00e1ndez in the role of La Ciguapa and Alexander Duval as El Pilonero.
