During his speech at the congress titled &#8220;To the roots of Europe for peace and unity,&#8221; the Supreme Pontiff highlighted the importance of integrating those who arrive on the continent by treating them as part of one&#8217;s own family.<\/p>\n\n<p>The event, which took place in a town with great historical significance due to its link to Robert Schuman, one of the pillars of the European Union, served as a setting for the Pope to reflect on the past and present of the continent. Leo XIV stressed that, despite historical turbulence, Europe has demonstrated a unique capacity to evolve through dialogue with other cultures.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The vision on migration and European identity<\/h2>\n\n<p>When analyzing current migratory flows, the pontiff emphasized that Europe is going through a key stage where openness towards others must go hand in hand with the rediscovery of one&#8217;s own roots. For Leo XIV, integration is a two-way process:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Offer spaces for migrants to develop their talents and capabilities.<\/li><li>Encourage those who arrive to integrate into the spirit and values of the home that receives them.<\/li><li>Guarantee legal and safe pathways for displaced persons.<\/li><li>Effectively combat human trafficking networks.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Human dignity demands legal and safe pathways, rescue and assistance, real cooperation against traffickers, effective protection for victims, serious processes of reception and integration, and policies that allow every person to live with dignity in their own land.<\/p><cite>Pope Leo XIV<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>The leader of the Catholic Church stressed that this migratory phenomenon represents an unprecedented encounter of cultures. According to his perspective, the universality of European values is the necessary tool for this dialogue to be constructive and to allow for the building of more solid and reconciled societies.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Secularism and collaboration<\/h2>\n\n<p>On another note, the Pope addressed the concept of secularism within civil institutions. He asserted that this principle should not be understood solely as the non-denominational nature of the State, but as an invitation to constant collaboration.
