Golden State Warriors legend Stephen Curry has secured his stay with the San Francisco franchise after reaching an agreement to extend his contract for two additional years, valued at $116 million. This new deal ensures that the star point guard will continue to be the face of the team, including a player option for the 2028-29 season that gives him control over his sporting future at the conclusion of this period.

At 38 years old, Curry had been eligible since late August to negotiate a significant extension to his current contract. After a nearly month-long analysis process, where Warriors management presented various financial alternatives to strengthen the team’s flexibility, the player opted to seal his commitment before official training camp begins in Hawaii.

Curry’s goal is clear: to avoid distractions and focus on his eighteenth NBA campaign. After a previous season marked by physical limitations, where he was only able to participate in 43 games due to discomfort in his right knee, the point guard feels optimistic about his current state.

The idea of getting back to work is exciting. I feel like I’ve taken advantage of the off-season. I have no doubts about my current physical condition heading into the start, but I’m excited to get back to work.
Stephen Curry

The Golden State organization seeks to regain prominence in the league, and relying on Curry’s health and commitment is the fundamental pillar of their strategy. The star player has been emphatic in his desire to maintain an environment of stability in the locker room, moving away from any type of media drama in the lead-up to the competition.

Upcoming challenges

The Warriors are now preparing for the formal start of preseason activities. The official debut of this new chapter for the team is marked on the calendar for October 21st, the date on which they will visit the Los Angeles Lakers to kick off their regular season.
