Renowned Dominican writer José Mármol expressed his deep gratitude after being selected as the honored author of the Santo Domingo International Book Fair (FILSD) 2026. For the intellectual, this distinction transcends the individual, consolidating itself as a tribute to the prolific generation of writers who began their trajectory at the beginning of the 1980s.

During the inaugural ceremony held at the Eduardo Brito National Theater, Mármol highlighted the fundamental role of this event as the most relevant cultural gathering in the country. Likewise, he praised the current management of the Ministry of Culture, led by Roberto Ángel Salcedo, for prioritizing the figure of the author and fostering the habit of reading as a pillar for strengthening citizenship.

Beyond the personal, I believe it is important to understand that an entire generation of writers who accompanied me since the beginning of the 80s is being recognized, many of them already established authors today, and any one of them with a body of work and an important career who could be here at this moment.
José Mármol, honored author FILSD 2026
