Actor Kit Harington has surprised fans of the Game of Thrones universe by stating that, after some time for reflection, he feels open once again to the possibility of reprising his iconic role as Jon Snow. Although the spin-off project centered on the character was previously paused, the actor’s statements suggest that the story of this iconic warrior from the North could still have a future.

During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Harington shared details about the creative process that took place two years ago. According to the actor, he, author George R.R. Martin, and the HBO network all agreed that if a solid and coherent narrative could not be found, it was better not to move forward with the production. It was a personal decision that, at the time, halted progress as he felt the chosen creative path was not the right one.

I still think there is a possibility that it will work. I wouldn’t have gotten into the project if I didn’t believe it. But at the beginning, I insisted a lot that if we didn’t find the right thing, it was better not to do it. It is much better not to do it.
Kit Harington

A project with significant changes

The original proposal, which began to take shape in 2022, aimed to follow in Jon Snow’s footsteps after the end of the original series, exploring a more introspective facet far from the tropes of the traditional hero. During the development stages, an attempt was made to give the plot a twist by incorporating screenwriter Quoc Dang Tran and considering settings such as the continent of Essos to refresh the narrative.

New professional horizons

Beyond Westeros, Harington is immersed in other highly relevant projects. His participation in the television adaptation of Harry Potter was recently confirmed, where he will play Gilderoy Lockhart. The actor confessed that his bond with the young wizard’s saga is personal, as listening to the audiobooks was a fundamental pillar during his process of sobriety and sleep recovery.

- The actor is currently starring in the miniseries A Tale of Two Cities, broadcast by MGM+.

- Harington had already lent his voice to Gilderoy Lockhart in the audiobook versions released last year.

- The actor’s relationship with Jon Snow has evolved, allowing him to see the character from a more mature and distanced professional perspective.

For now, fans of the universe created by George R.R. Martin will have to wait to see if these statements translate into an official return, while the actor continues to consolidate his career with diverse roles on the small screen.
