The judges in charge of the proceedings formally dismissed the request for the extinction of the criminal action that had been filed by a group of 13 defendants, who argued that the deadline for the continuation of the trial had expired.<\/p>\n\n<p>This resolution responds to the arguments presented by the Public Ministry, represented by a team led by Deputy Attorney General Wilson Camacho, head of the Specialized Prosecutor&#8217;s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), along with deputy prosecutors Mirna Ortiz, Emmanuel Ram\u00edrez, Rosa Alba Garc\u00eda, Melbin Romero, and Miguel Collado.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The court&#8217;s position on the process<\/h3>\n\n<p>Magistrate Clara Castillo, in justifying the decision, emphasized that the case file has not remained static nor has it suffered unjustified delays. According to the judge, acceding to the defendants&#8217; request would be to ignore the sustained work and effort of the Dominican judicial system during the development of this complex case.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">This is not a case that has been sleeping an eternal sleep in this court. To declare the extinction of the criminal action in this case would be to disregard the judicial effort that has been made with this process.<\/p>\n<cite>Magistrate Clara Castillo<\/cite>\n\n\n<p>The court, presided over by Judge Claribel Nivar and also composed of Clara Castillo and Yissel Soto, has scheduled the formal delivery of the decision for October 13. The hearing was recessed until Monday, September 28, 2026, at 9:00 in the morning.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Corruption case details<\/h3>\n\n<p>This rejection adds to a similar determination made last August, when the same court denied an extinction petition filed directly by the former attorney general&#8217;s defense. Jean Alain Rodr\u00edguez faces serious accusations that include:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Administrative corruption and embezzlement.<\/li>\n<li>Bribery and fraud against the State.<\/li>\n<li>Money laundering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p>The case file maintains that, during the 2016-2020 period, more than RD$6 billion were embezzled through fraudulent schemes. The Public Prosecutor&#8217;s Office has reiterated on multiple occasions that the delaying tactics of the defense attorneys have been the true cause of the trial&#8217;s extension, dismissing any lack of diligence on the part of the accusing body.<\/p>\n\n<p>In addition to the former official, the judicial process involves a large group of people and companies, including Jhonatan Loander Medina Reyes, Alfredo Alexander Solano Augusto, Jhonatan Joel Rodr\u00edguez Imbert, Javier Alejandro Forteza Ibarra, Rafael Antonio Mercedes Marte, Miguel Jos\u00e9 Moya, Braulio Michael Batista Barias, among others.
