Top 10 NFL Offensive Tackles for 2025: The Best on the Line<\/h2>\n\nWith the 2025 NFL training camps on the horizon, the league’s true insiders have spoken. Executives, coaches, and scouts from the league were surveyed to determine the top 10 players at 11 different positions, from quarterback to cornerback, and all positions in between. This is the sixth year of these rankings, and as usual, several players moved up or off the lists from last year.\n\nThe classification process involves voters providing their top 10 players at each position, and then the results are compiled and candidates are ranked based on the number of top 10 votes, composite average, and dozens of interviews. Film analysis and research were provided by the NFL analyst from Alofoke Deportes.\n\n\n
Each section includes quotes and comments from voters about each ranked player, including honorable mentions. The goal was to identify the best players for 2025, not a five-year projection or a lifetime achievement award. Who are the best players today?<\/p>\n\n\nToday, we focus on offensive tackles. This position is usually less dramatic, as the mainstays tend to stay at the top. However, the retirements of Terron Armstead and Tyron Smith have opened opportunities for new stars to shine. One AFC offensive tackle makes his debut in the top 10, one more than last year.\n\nThe fight for first place was particularly interesting, anticipating a decade-long battle for supremacy between two very talented tackles playing on NFC playoff teams. One of them outperformed the other this year. Players in their thirties continue to prove their worth, although a veteran tackle has left the top spot.\n\nHere are the top 10 offensive tackles according to league executives, coaches, and scouts:\n\n\n
1. Tristan Wirfs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\nWirfs, who has been All-Pro on the left and right side, is an incredible feat, and no other player in NFL history has achieved it. His learning ability is impressive, and he demonstrated it in his second season playing in both positions. Analysts attributed two sacks to him, an impressive figure for a left tackle. His pass-blocking win rate of 95.9 led all tackles.\n\n\n

“He doesn’t have the flashy plays that Sewell has, but everything is very easy for him. He can handle whatever you want and won’t seem particularly stressed doing it. A rare combination of size and athleticism”.<\/p>\n\nNFC Executive<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nWirfs’ work on the left side helped the Buccaneers’ offense rank third in total offense (399.5 yards per game). Wirfs is the highest-paid tackle in the game, with $28.125 million per year.\n\n\n
2. Penei Sewell, Detroit Lions<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\nSewell narrowly missed the top spot to Wirfs. Both kept pace with votes in the top five, but Wirfs got more first-place votes.\n\n\n

“It’s really a matter of nuances. Both are great. I give a slight edge to [Wirfs] for playing on the left side”.<\/p>\n\nAFC Scout<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nSewell’s physical football style has been a winning combination for Detroit, earning him consecutive All-Pro distinctions. His 2024 metrics (91.2 pass block win rate and 71.7 run block win rate) are not stellar, but you don’t need to watch Sewell play much to know his impact on a game. Sewell showed discipline in 2024 with three penalties committed in 17 games played.\n\n\n

“He’s definitely one of the most complete and physical players at the position. I feel like there are a few others who are more dominant in both phases.”<\/p>\n\nNFC Executive<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
3. Lane Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\nAfter 12 seasons, there hasn’t been a tangible decline in Johnson’s game. In fact, Johnson ranked among the best, again, in career block win rate with 80.2. He has proven to be durable and has played at least 15 games in each of the last three seasons, earning him consecutive Pro Bowl appearances. These factors helped Johnson narrowly edge out Trent Williams for third place.\n\n\n

“It’s the gold standard now: technique, intelligence, and probably the most instinctive of all. He’s a perfect product of that system. He’s dealt with a lot, from mental health to injuries, and he’s come out of it better than ever.”<\/p>\n\nNFL personnel director<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nAlmost everyone praises Johnson’s overall game, from his dominance on the second level in the running game to his footwork and discipline in the passing game.\n\n\n
4. Trent Williams, San Francisco 49ers<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\nThe highest-graded tackle of the previous four years has played like a 25-year-old for over a decade. However, injuries have begun to pile up as Williams approaches 37, and ankle issues have cost him games in each of the last two seasons. He remains excellent, allowing four sacks in 10 games in 2024 and powering the 49ers’ potent running attack. Surprisingly, though, Williams didn’t get his normal share of first-place votes.\n\n\n

“When he’s at his best, there’s still no one better. 5. Jordan Mailata, Philadelphia Eagles<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\nMailata is known for his rare combination of size (6 feet 8 inches, 365 pounds), agility, and violence on the line of scrimmage. Now, he is known for other things, such as being a Super Bowl champion and being a second-team All-Pro selection. Mailata allowed 1.5 sacks in 2024 according to Next Gen Stats, tied for the fewest among tackles with at least 350 pass-blocking snaps. Combine that with his prowess in the running game and the Eagles have a long-term solution at left tackle.\n\n\n

“One of the most unique players in the NFL. He has really improved year after year. The only thing that holds him back from the others at the top is that they probably have better instincts”.<\/p>\n\nNFL veteran personnel executive<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nA different personnel executive with an NFC team loves Mailata’s game, but kept him out of the top four because “he’s still improving and getting more solid, but there are still enough ways to throw him off balance.”\n\n\n
6. Rashawn Slater, Los Angeles Chargers<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\nMultiple voters pointed out that Slater is an ideal fit for offensive coordinator Greg Roman’s system due to his athleticism on the field. Slater’s 68 missed run blocks are the fewest among players who received at least one vote for this piece and played at least 12 regular season games.\n\n\n

“He was better against the pressure and excelled in this scheme. If you put the emphasis on movement instead of pure physicality, you value it more”.<\/p>\n\nNFC Executive<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nAn issue with Slater, according to an AFC scout: he can wear down at the end of games, due in part to his size (6 feet 4 inches, 315 pounds).\n\n\n

“But that’s being nitpicky: he’s a guy you like to measure your best pass rushers against to see how they really stack up against good talent.”<\/p>\n\nAFC Scout<\/cite>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nSlater committed two penalties in 904 snaps last season.\n\n\n
7. Laremy Tunsil, Washington Commanders<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\nTunsil has long performed as a top-five tackle on our list, but the mistakes and struggles of the Texans’ offensive line hurt his case on this occasion. He has three consecutive seasons of committing at least 10 penalties, including 19 in 2024, according to NFLPenalties.com. Evaluators still love his combination of footwork, agility, and violence, and so did the Washington Commanders, who acquired Tunsil and a fourth-round pick in March in exchange for a package of picks from days 2 and 3.\n\n\n

“Washington wouldn’t have done what he did if he weren’t immensely talented. With the penalties, when they happen, they seem to pile up, which makes you wonder if he has the mental strength to wash away the bad plays and move on.”<\/p>\n\nNFL Personnel Director<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
8. Dion Dawkins, Buffalo Bills<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\nAfter years of failed attempts, Dawkins makes his debut in the top 10. Dawkins has always been a physical presence. Last year, the Bills saw him put it all together with a consistent running and passing game.\n\n\n

“Very consistent, stayed healthy, great leader. I’ve always liked him: probably better footballing composition than actual talent”.<\/p>\n\nAFC Executive<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\nDawkins’ 7.4% pressure rate is the third-best among left tackles since 2022, which the Bills like. Buffalo has signed him to two extensions since 2020.\n\n\n

“He just gets the job done consistently. He’s physical and nasty.”<\/p>\n\nAFC Scout<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
9. Christian Darrisaw, Minnesota Vikings<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\nDarrisaw’s serious knee injury is the main problem with his position on the list, as he is recovering from a torn ACL and MCL. At minicamp, Darrisaw did individual drills, but had not moved on to 11-man work. The Vikings will take things easy with him, and many evaluators still see him as elite.\n\n\n

Despite the injury costing him 10 games, Darrisaw produced an 88.9 pass-blocking win rate on 197 snaps along with a 79.7 run-blocking win rate. The Vikings gave him a four-year, $104 million extension before last season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
10. Andrew Thomas, New York Giants<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\nIt’s difficult to call Thomas a bullish bet entering Year 6, but some evaluators see a first-rate tackle who could be one of the best if he achieves a full performance in 2025. A knee problem limited Thomas to six games last season. He still stopped the run at a high level (79.9 run block win rate) when he was on the field.\n\n“He was on his way to being elite before the injury. They were almost writing him off (in New York) at first, but he has flourished.”\n\nThomas’ performance mirrored Darrisaw’s, with a pass-blocking win rate of 89.0 on 234 snaps.\n\n\n

Jake Matthews, Atlanta Falcons: “He has improved in anchoring with power against the best rushers. He has always been good in the run game, but you used to be able to drive him back to the QB. Now it’s much harder to do that.” – NFL Coordinator<\/li>

Ronnie Stanley, Baltimore Ravens: “I thought he played better last year than the year before. He was more consistent.” – NFL Personnel Evaluator<\/li>
Kolton Miller, Las Vegas Raiders: “He had a slow start last year due to a shoulder issue, but he bounced back. He’s a very consistent player, not quite at the top level, but just outside of that.” – AFC Scout<\/li>
Taylor Decker, Detroit Lions: “He’s always been underrated to me. Big, smart, very steady, good in the run game and can handle power. Nothing flashy, but a very consistent player.” – NFL Personnel Director<\/li>
Bernhard Raimann, Indianapolis Colts: “He’s a good example of sticking with a player.
