The Ministry of Culture, under the management of the General Directorate of Fine Arts and with the support of the “Eduardo Brito” National Theater and the Friends of the National Theater Foundation, has launched the “2026 Fine Arts Week.” This event has established itself as a key space for education, cultural exchange, and the promotion of Dominican identity.<\/p>\n\n
During the opening ceremony, Marianela Sallent, Director General of Fine Arts, emphasized that artistic excellence is the result of constant effort. According to Sallent, natural talent must be complemented by study, reflection, and continuous updating to achieve a real impact on society.<\/p>\n\n

This fifth edition pays a heartfelt tribute to Natacha S\u00e1nchez, an emblematic figure in art criticism and cultural management in the country, whose work was fundamental to the development of various institutional projects.<\/p>\n\n
The creative process behind Salom\u00e9: Soul of the Homeland<\/h2>\n\n
One of the highlights of the opening was the performance by the Dominican National Ballet of the work “Salom\u00e9: Alma de Patria.” The company’s director, Pablo P\u00e9rez, and choreographer Eric Guzm\u00e1n, detailed how this piece, inspired by the legacy of the distinguished educator and poet Salom\u00e9 Ure\u00f1a, came to be.<\/p>\n\n
The project was born on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the writer’s birth, posing the challenge of translating her life into the language of dance. To achieve this, they relied on the original musical composition by Junior Lomba, who created a soundtrack that accompanies the historical narrative of the work.<\/p>\n\n
Free programming for the public<\/h2>\n\n
The schedule for the “2026 Fine Arts Week” runs until September 18th at the A\u00edda Bonnelly Hall of the National Theater. All activities are free of charge and are designed to offer an educational approach to the performing and visual arts:<\/p>\n\n\n

- Tuesday 15:<\/strong> Keynote lecture on the history of the National Theater Company, by Canek Denis.<\/li>\n
- Wednesday 16:<\/strong> Didactic concert on art song in German and French, directed by Antonia Chabebe.<\/li>\n
- Thursday 17:<\/strong> Presentation of the digital catalog of the Fine Arts Permanent Collection, by Aniova Prandy.<\/li>\n
- Friday 18:<\/strong> Closing with the “Learn Our Own 2026” program, a demonstrative talk on folklore and national identity with Wanda Camilo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n
The sessions begin at 7:00 PM and entry is on a first-come, first-served basis until the venue reaches capacity.
