The measure, motivated by the retailers’ dissatisfaction regarding bank commissions, has generated concern in the legislative sphere due to the direct impact it would have on the citizenry.

Deputy Ramón Raposo emphasized the need for state intervention to prevent this conflict from escalating. According to the legislator, the elimination of electronic payments in such a vital sector would send a negative message and could trigger a domino effect that harms the fluidity of the country’s commercial operations, which is currently committed to digitalization.

The Dominican government must find a solution to this issue, because it sends a bad message. Genao recalled that fuel is a critical input for the transport of food and the mobility of the workforce, so any interruption in payment facilities must be avoided.

Along the same lines, Deputy Pedro Martínez described fuel as an essential product and urged the parties to prioritize the well-being of users. “Any difficulty that limits electronic payments must be momentary and must be resolved no matter what,” Martínez pointed out.

Critical opinions: Some legislators, such as Antonio Brito, have described Anadegas’ stance as “blackmail,” questioning the effectiveness of dialogue tables in the face of measures that directly affect the citizen’s pocket.

Private sector stance: The president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), Celso Juan Marranzini, also spoke out against the removal of the devices, urging for a consensus to be sought to protect the stability of the service.

The conflict arises because Anadegas maintains that retailers allocate approximately 27% of their gross profits to the payment of commissions for the use of electronic systems. As the deadline set by the union members approaches, the call for negotiation remains the main path suggested by legislators to avoid a crisis in the national fuel supply.

Lawmakers urge dialogue regarding potential disconnection of card terminals at gas stations Following the recent announcement by the National Association of Gasoline Retailers (Anadegas) to remove card terminals from its 780 affiliated stations starting next September 25th, various deputies have raised their voices to request urgent mediation between financial entities and gas station owners.
