The news was confirmed this Sunday by All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n\n<p>&#8220;From barbed wire battles to unforgettable high-risk moments, Sabu gave it his all to professional wrestling,&#8221; AEW expressed on social media.<\/p>\n\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\nThe announcement comes a few weeks after Sabu participated in his retirement match during WrestleMania weekend in Las Vegas, facing Joey Janela at the Joey Janela&#8217;s Spring Break 9 event.\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"false\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">RIP Sabu \ud83d\udc94<\/p>\u2014 All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AEW\/status\/1921605137514078537\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">May 5, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\nSabu began his wrestling career under the tutelage of his uncle Ed &#8220;The Sheik&#8221; Farhat. He stood out during his time in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) in the 1990s, where he combined aerial acrobatics with ultra-violent matches that included barbed wire, chairs, tables, and more. He was a two-time ECW Champion, ECW Tag Team Champion, and ECW World Television Champion.\n\nSabu starred in memorable rivalries with Rob Van Dam and Taz. The extreme wrestling legend also competed in New Japan Pro Wrestling, World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), before having a brief stint in WWE in the 2000s, after the company bought ECW.\n\nSabu participated in WrestleMania 23 in 2007, as part of the ECW Originals team that defeated The New Breed in a tag team match. He was released a month later.
