The petition is based on a delicate heart condition which, according to her lawyers, requires specialized care that cannot be guaranteed at the correctional facility where she has been held since her arrest on January 3rd.<\/p>\n\n<p>According to the court document filed, Flores, 69, is requesting to be transferred to a private residence under strict security measures. Among the conditions proposed by her legal team to ensure her continued custody are:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>24-hour surveillance with armed guards.<\/li><li>Use of an electronic tracking bracelet.<\/li><li>Strict restrictions on visitation rights.<\/li><li>Interception and monitoring of telephone communications.<\/li><li>Surrender of passport and full coverage of transfer costs at their own expense.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The defense argues that Flores has experienced critical episodes, including chest pain, arrhythmias, and respiratory difficulties, in addition to a weight loss of more than eleven kilos since she was captured by U.S. forces in Caracas.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>The legal team detailed an incident that occurred on July 29, which they described as a possible mild heart attack, although the medical diagnosis has not yet been officially confirmed. It is worth remembering that both Flores and Maduro face charges in the United States for alleged ties to drug trafficking and terrorism, accusations to which both have pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Status of the judicial process<\/h2>\n\n<p>The case, which is currently in its pre-trial phase, has been marked by the defense&#8217;s attempts to dismiss the charges. The lawyers have based their arguments on Maduro&#8217;s alleged sovereign immunity as head of state and the immunity linked to Flores&#8217; status as first lady, in addition to questioning the legality of the operation that resulted in their capture.<\/p>\n\n<p>Federal Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein has scheduled the start of the trial for June 1, 2027.
