A bold robbery has shaken the art world in France. During the early hours of this Tuesday, two individuals managed to infiltrate the Renoir Museum, located in Cagnes-sur-Mer, managing to steal four valuable pieces by the iconic impressionist painter Auguste Renoir. The total value of the stolen works is estimated at about 9 million euros.<\/p>\n\n
According to preliminary reports, the criminals executed the plan by taking advantage of a shift change in the facility’s security personnel. After breaching a perimeter fence, the suspects accessed the interior and proceeded to remove the canvases from their frames to facilitate their transport.<\/p>\n\n
The museum alarm went off just a few minutes before 6:00 in the morning, at which time the security cameras captured the two subjects. Despite the rapid response of the Municipal Police, who arrived at the scene five minutes later, those responsible had already managed to leave the premises.<\/p>\n\n\n
During the escape, the thieves dropped one of the stolen paintings, which was subsequently recovered. At the moment, the extent of the damage the piece may have suffered is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n
The mayor of Cagnes-sur-Mer, Bryan Masson, strongly condemned the event, describing it as a direct attack on the city’s historical heritage. Currently, local authorities are working on a detailed inventory to confirm exactly which pieces were affected by this theft.<\/p>\n\n
The Renoir Museum, also known as Domaine des Collettes, is a space of great cultural relevance as it was the last residence of the master Pierre-Auguste Renoir, who lived there from 1907 until his death in 1919.
