The protesters maintain that their current income is insufficient to cover the cost of living given the workload they perform daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the day of protest, the employees exposed the reality they face in their respective centers. Mar\u00eda Contreras, a janitor at the Pedro Henr\u00edquez Ure\u00f1a school in Los Bajos de Haina, reported that, after three years of service, she receives a monthly salary of RD$12,000, an amount that must cover her basic needs while she maintains the hygiene of entire pavilions, classrooms, and common areas from the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Decent work must have a decent wage.<\/p>\n<cite>Mar\u00eda Contreras, education sector worker.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Demands and warning of work stoppage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The discontent is not limited to the cleaning staff; administrative and logistical support workers also joined the protest. Francisca de la Cruz, an administrative employee, highlighted that her duties cover a wide range of school processes that require constant attention throughout the school year. For his part, Frank Luis \u00c1lvarez, representative of La Altagracia province, emphasized that his salary of RD$15,000 is far from the values required to afford the current basic food basket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Demand for a salary increase in line with the current economic reality.<\/li>\n<li>Denunciation of the lack of fulfillment of previous promises by educational authorities.<\/li>\n<li>Request for a direct dialogue with the Ministry of Education to reach a definitive solution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The workers described the current management as indolent and warned that this demonstration is a final wake-up call.
