The institution ordered the immediate suspension and the corresponding sanction for those responsible for the construction of a gabion wall that was directly affecting the bed of a local stream.<\/p>\n\n
The intervention of environmental authorities was prompted by citizen complaints, which alerted about potential damage to the ecosystem. After receiving the reports, the technical team moved to the site to conduct an exhaustive inspection and evaluate the terrain conditions, as well as the degree of compliance with current regulations for the protection of water bodies.<\/p>\n\n
After completing the field evaluations, the Ministry of Environment determined that the project lacks environmental viability. The main reason is that the building is located within the mandatory protection zone established for the banks of water bodies, contravening the provisions of Law 64-00 on Environment and Natural Resources.<\/p>\n\n
