Dominican pitcher Ronel Blanco has been called up again to the Houston Astros’ big league team. The right-hander will take the mound this Tuesday to face the Chicago White Sox, in what represents a crucial opportunity to prove he can regain his best form after a complex recovery process following Tommy John surgery.

This reinstatement occurs within the framework of the expansion of Major League rosters to 28 players, allowing the Texas organization to re-evaluate the pitcher, who in previous stages had managed to establish himself as a reliable piece within the starting rotation.

Blanco’s path has been marked by adversity. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2025 to repair his right elbow, the Dominican began a long rehabilitation period that kept him sidelined for months. Although he was activated on July 20th, his performance in the Major Leagues was inconsistent, recording a 7.71 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP in five appearances.

His time in the Minor Leagues, after being sent to Triple-A on August 16, also presented significant challenges. In his two starts with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, the pitcher allowed 12 earned runs, including three home runs, which tested his mettle and ability to adjust following the surgical intervention.

Blanco’s arrival comes at a pivotal moment for the Astros, who are locked in a fierce battle for the top of the American League West Division. With a 70-68 record, Houston looks to capitalize on its two-game lead over the Texas Rangers, relying on the depth of its roster.

The goal for Blanco in this new stage is not just to seek immediate results, but to show clear signs of progress, greater command in the control of his pitches, and the consistency necessary to provide stability to the team in the final stretch of the season.
